IOS 17.5.1 iMessage Notification Banner Issue

THIS!! It just randomly started today, & I am losing my mind. I don’t know if there is a settings change we can make, but I can’t find anything!

I WAS ABLE TO FIX!! Do a hard restart on your phone & it should fix your banner issues!

Oh my gosh me too! I can’t stand it. At first I couldn’t put my finger on what had changed exactly. It was like an itch I couldn’t reach and then when I found these two tiny things on the message board I was shocked. I want my text banner back the way it was please.

I did this initially and it fixed it temporarily and then after a few days it went right back to just saying messages with notifications underneath it. If I turn previews on it will show the contact name but it also shows the message and I don’t want that. I really wish they would just fix the problem. It is driving me insane being that I work from my phone and rely on knowing who is messaging me. Now I’m relying on my watch to tell me who messaged me which is fine but if I’m on the phone it just drops down and says message notification. So frustrating.

Just shut it down. Power back up. Not a factory reset.

Being able to see the name of the sender without a full preview on the Lock Screen is the main reason I use Apple Mail for email rather than outlook or gmail. Knowing the sender’s identity means I likely know if it’s important to read the email immediately.

I was worried that 17.5.1 had now ruined the Messages app!

here is what you need to do is go under contacts, select contact, edit, then click below the image you see when they message you then edit. There is the different options you have as you can choose to your likings.
