My power button seems to be dead, I've tried resetting the SMC several times with no change. I do notice that a red light blinks on the motherboard when I unplug and plug the power cord. Does the power button need to be replaced and if so where can I find a tutorial?

There is no standard way of replacing the power button, because it is extremely simple and it essentially never the SOURCE of the problem.
But you have not articulated in detail the actual issues you are facing.
MacBook Pro is a battery-CAPABLE device, not a battery OPERATED device. (it is Not an iPhone.) Everything you do on it needs POWER. Connect the power adapter and leave it connected as often and as long as possible. It will NEVER over-charge.
Alot of times when I power down my Mac Pro mid 2012, and I try to power up again the next day there is no response the power button is dead, but when I wait a day or two it will power itself back up on its own, I can’t figure it out

how did you decide that? the buttons themselves almost never need replacing.
Just figured that would be the next step, although overnight it powered itself up on its own, so it seems to be intermittent, just can't figure out the rhyme or reason for this
