Why can't I add Upgrade card to Apple Wallet?

I can get to the "verify" step but then zilch. Selecting the "verify with text" option results in nothing (yes, I've confirmed the card issuer has correct phone number to receive texts). Selecting the "verify by calling..." option results in a conversation with the card issuer in which they say "we don't know anything about a verification code, call Apple." Searching results in a bunch of similar questions that all lead to apple's instructions for how to add a card to Wallet...none of which even mention a verification code.

The verification code is an extra step that some banks/card issuers require to verify your identity. Only the issuing bank can verify you and they have optionally elected to require additional verification such as calling support center or a text message from the bank. Apple is not a bank and cannot verify your card or your identity.


Do you have the banks mobile app on your iPhone? If so, please log into your account and look around the app for a spot to added your card or authorize your card for use with Apple Wallet. Upgrade is a Fintech, not a bank and contract with a bank to provide the banking services. Some Fintechs have extra requirements requiring the use of their mobile app.
