The post-reply time limitation makes no sense. How can we “reply” if no one sees the past messages?
Whether locking is due to inactivity or old ages, the fact remains that painfully few people who ask a question here return weeks of months later to check for new responses. That observation is based on over 20 years of working question here.
And the few that do seldom upvote. You would be wasting your time. From a storage standpoint, given these are said to be the largest and busiest forums in the world, not locking dead threads is not practical.
Most complaints like yours we see are from people coming here from a search engine. Search engines do not make it easy to see the initial date of the post. I have found Apple Community posts of mine over 20 years old pop up on search engines.
If you desire to be truly helpful and effective here, skip the search engine and bookmark this site map:
For each topic section listed, start by working the first page. For really active topics like iPhone, it makes sense to work the first two or three pages.

If you have additional questions about the same issue as a locked thread, you can always start a new thread and include a link to the original. Answering questions posted more than a couple of weeks ago is generally not a productive use of time.
