Mail not working on iPhone after iOS 18 Update

Just done the 18.1 update and tested the emails again and it’s still not working. I have deleted both the app and my email accounts and reinstalled them, this made no difference. My emails only drop in if I open the app or plug my phone in. I get no notification dings. No acceptable Apple, this is a basic function that is not working.

Upgrade from IOS 17.7 to IOS 18.1

I have several IMAP mail accounts. All work well except one, my business account (Zimbra):

Only the sent mailbox is not synchronized when sending from the iPhone (if sending from a Mac, also in IMAP, the sent mailbox of the iPhone is updated).

I've tried everything, nothing works. Do others have the same problem with IOS 18.1?

Correct and congratualtions. I’ve been telling folks here to contact their IMAP mail service providers to get the needed support and updates right from day 1, Apple support staff *should* be telling them to do the same but apparently are not. And updated info needed from all of the various providers can and often does differ from one provider to the next, unfortunately.

My problem started post 18.1 update. Extremely frustrating! Nothing seems to work except turning WiFi off. Messages load but when you turn WiFi back on, no messages. I have also noted gmail folders are gone since I deleted and reinstalled. Also, if I delete messages in Mail, it’s not syncing through to 2 iPads. Everything has to be done manually!

I received the answer from my email provider, that the IMAP issue is caused by a bug in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.

They suggested to report my problem to Apple and shared the following article, as it is a known issue:

I get my IMAP email only to work once, after I reboot my iPhone (18.2 EU). Not really the best way. For now I am using webmail via browser, but I would really appreciate a fix asap.

I've just updated to iOS 18.2 (v4). The issue persists.

I've tried the earlier discussed workaround of explicitly adding the forward slash to "IMAP Path Prefix" in the incoming settings, this unfortunately doesn't fix it for me.

I can send email, just not receive it.

Yesterday, I updated to iPadOS 18.1. Today, one of my Gmail accounts stopped retrieving mail. Looking at the email download history, it looks like mail for this account stopped downloading after I updated to iPadOS 18. “No problem“ I thought to myself. “I’ll just delete the account and reinstall it.“ But mail won’t let me add the account. Come on Apple. Fix this problem. Luckily, I have Outlook, an email app that, while clunky, actually works.

I recently updated to iOS 18.1 this weekend to try fixing a HomeKit problem (constant notifications about cameras "motion detected") and now my IMAP email account isn't updating anymore either. I've tried all of the suggestions posted but nothing is working.

We tried annelle204's solution (and multiple similar iterations) on all of our iOS18 updated phones and this did not work.

TLS 1.1 is obsolete and has been deprecated.

You need to get your mail server up to speed.

It needs to be using TLS 1.2 or higher.

True, but why is the macOS mail app working fine?
