Found this on another thread How to Stop Battery Draining on iPhone After a Recent IOS Update and it's been a game changer, battery which was reducing 20 to 30% in 1 hour of basic usage now reduces only 15%. I will update you on which adjustment helped alot as I am currently testing on it as I don't want to disable some features so will update soon here.

Already did that, no change.

Example: fully charged yesterday 10:30pm, unplugged, left over night, this morning at 06:00am 18% battery left.

A full reset is also not an option, sorry. You can't expect people to do full resets after every update and spend hours if not days to get everything working again.

Yes, I know we have backups, but there are plenty of apps that won't backup completely for security reasons, banking and so on.

Found fix! Had the same issue. Brand new iPhone 16 Pro with iOS 18. Battery was draining super fast while it was overheating at the same time. Charged all night and the phone had only 40% in the morning because it stopped charging due to overheating. Turned out, my calendar app was using more power than the entire phone and all the other apps combined. After I deleted the calendar app, my phone started working without overheating and lasted for almost 2 days with one full charge. Also, I noticed, there is no need to deleting the calendar app. Alternatively, you can just turn off iCloud sync for Calendar and that will also stop it from draining your battery. I hope they will fix that with the next update.

I have the same issue with battery drainage since updating to 18.01, 50% down in 12 hours when on standby. iPad also getting very hot. Never had an issue before upgrade 2 to 3 day life.

is this the same issue as battery drainage in MacBook which I’ve had for 13 months cannot leave it on standby. Apple have ignored this issue when contacted.

Well, I used my iphone 15PM for 1h30 min … dropped from 85% to 35% and it is now just 5 PM.

A few ordinary little use things, it is just crazy … with deleted home screens, removed weather widgets, disabled the entire ring system at home … and the battery is still linear drop as if I used the phone non stop … but it has 1,5 hr of screen time?!?!

I have to charge my phone multiple times a day after upgrading to iOS 18. My usage pattern remains unchanged. I contacted apple support and after some checks they blamed the app that had used the battery the most for this problem and asked me to contact the app developer for support(MS Teams in this case). I am don’t think this has to do with MS Teams but trying to reach them.

Rapid Battery Drain Issues After iOS 18 Update on iPhone 15

After updating my iPhone 15 to iOS 18, I’ve experienced a significant drop in battery performance. The battery drains far more quickly than before, even when the phone is idle or in low-power mode. Background apps seem to consume more power, and basic tasks, like checking emails or using social media, cause noticeable battery percentage drops.

In addition, I’ve noticed that the phone heats up during normal use, which I assume is linked to the rapid battery consumption. I’ve tried adjusting settings, turning off background refresh, and even resetting some features, but the issue persists. Apple really needs to address these battery management problems with a prompt fix or patch for iOS 18. For now, I’m regretting this update as it makes my new iPhone feel less reliable.

I appreciate the effort that goes into their updates, but I often feel like they impact our devices in ways that encourage us to purchase new models more frequently. As a student, it's difficult to keep up with the latest releases every year, especially since many of these updates seem to reduce battery performance. I recently purchased the newest iPad, and I noticed it was performing well until the latest update. It would be great if future updates could focus on improving device longevity rather than prompting users to upgrade.

I had the issue and I did following changes.

  1. settings - battery - charging - set to 90%
  2. settings - apple account - personal information - communication preference - turn off all theee options
  3. deleted following app and re-installed based on high power drain stats on battery usage

a. YouTube

b. Facebook

c. Instagram

d. Google products

e. Microsoft products especially teams

  1. you need to update all you app mandatorily or remove and do fresh installation
  2. final step, clear your browser history and cookies.

you will see a significant improvement. Heating issue got reduced.

Note: don’t expect battery performance what you had in iOS 17 because iOS 18 spoilt entire iOS experience.

above steps just helps to save us from battery drain faster. From 90% to 10% it last for 8 hrs on heavy usage.

Update with partial fix: If Cellular Data statistics are refreshing once a second, there is at least one app causing this. For me, it was the mobile game LOTR: Rise to War. Disabling cellular data access for that app has mostly resolved the issue. There may be other apps which cause the same problem as it has occurred once since I took this step. However, it was definitely LOTR RTW, as opening that app with cell service enabled for it immediately causes the issue to occur when the app is in the background.

You’ll know it’s happening because the phone gets warm almost immediately.

Steps to fix:

  1. Close all apps
  2. Restart phone
  3. Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data
  4. Turn off cellular data for all of your heavily used apps, especially those that receive notifications during background activities
  5. One by one, re-enable cellular data for apps as you need it
  6. If the issue occurs again, repeat these steps until you identify the app causing the issue and make peace with only using it on WiFi (until a permanent fix is available)

Apple and app developers will need to both work to resolve the root issue that seems to relate to background cellular data usage.

I found one of the root causes: If you go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data and it’s refreshing once a second, this is what’s draining your battery. Some apps seem to trigger it, restarting seems to stop it temporarily until something triggers it again.

Disabling Enable Cellular Usage Statistics at the bottom of that same screen did not fix it.

18.1 did not fix it, either.
