iPhone 16 Pro Max keyboard issues

two issues with my iPhone 16 pro max IOS 18:

1) keyboard lacks of responsiveness, oftentimes I have to double click when typing or It misses letters.

2) when searching for apps or contacts and using the swipe down function if starting a word with the letter «s», the search immediately disappears and spotlight shuts down.

what to do? Do I have a faulty device or is this an OS issue?

thanks and regards!

Your issues may relate to iOS 18 software glitches. For the keyboard lag, try resetting keyboard settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary). The "S" search bug is likely a Spotlight indexing error—restart the device or reinstall iOS via Recovery Mode. If problems persist after updating to iOS 18.1 (released October 2024), contact Apple Support for hardware diagnostics.

Ouch… I thought I was being weird thinking a brand new, £1500 phone was unresponsive, laggy, and not recognising taps…. This is utterly disappointing and should be fixed ASAP - can’t believe a premium product, sold and priced as such is having such a frustrating issue - the amount of fixing I need to do to every text makes me want to put this phone straight in the bin.

The situation with the phone is terrible. From a device that’s supposed to be a phone, it’s expected that messaging and calling should work seamlessly. However, messaging simply doesn’t function properly. It’s like having only half a phone, and this disruption affects daily life significantly.

The recent update hasn’t improved anything—if anything, the issue persists just as badly. For me, this has impacted my work, as I now have to rely entirely on my computer to manage tasks that should be easily handled by my phone.

What’s most frustrating is knowing that Apple devices go through rigorous testing and quality control processes. Yet, anyone using this phone for even one day would immediately notice how bad this issue is. How could it possibly pass through quality assurance and end up this problematic?

Now, we’re all here waiting for a response, but no one seems to be addressing it. This is unacceptable.

My last post picked up rcpaynewv as a personal sign which was determined as a password overused by Google, Gmail.com, who partially canceled my usage of same in my internet gmail system and while I switched to another scheme of emailing “rcpaynewv” keeps upsetting any new scheme I try to use, like this one, “discussions.apple.com”.

also “Such as “rxxxxxxx@me.com”,  “rxxxxxx@icloud.com”, driving me nuts. As Google screwing up, keeping me from merely switching my use of my old favorite. Help! As in how do I change the following “”rxxxxxxxx@me.com”,  “rxxxxxxx@icloud.com”” to coincide with my new gmail address.

Just got my iPhone 16 Pro Max and I thought I was going CRAZY because of this KEYBOARD ISSUE! Wow I am relieved but angry all at the same time to find out that others like me are experiencing this issue. I paid $2,600 CAD for a phone that doesn't even have a properly functioning keyboard. Extremely baffled as to how so many others have complained and seemingly no official solution has been presented!? Apple - you are slowly losing my loyalty... address this problem NOW!

mannell8 ~ One possible explanation is that people mistakenly think Apple is here in these user-to-user communities. Apple is here:

I just bought my device last week. My iPhone 12 Pro Max was way better than this thing!

Issues:

1.) Lagging on the keyboard. Emojis take a while to pop up, etc…

Ugh, super disappointed on my 1k+ purchase. I keep finding videos online of what to turn off or delete to fix the issues. However, I shouldn’t have to do any of that for this phone to work correctly. I just transferred what was on my iPhone 12 and it worked great.

Does anyone know if Apple has responded to these complaints?

I’m glad, I came across this blog. This whole time I thought it was the screen protector. This issue is annoying, I literally have to grab my iPhone 16 pro max with both hands and stab the letters on the keyboard with my thumbs to register. Can’t type with one hand anymore or else the other person waiting for for my reply would think I don’t know how to write because it would take a long time to type something because of all these unregistered letters that keep making me deleting and retyping several words in a sentence.

ALSO I HAVE NOTICED AN ISSUE WHEN TRYING TO RELOCATE THE POINTER, IT ALWAYS MISSES,,,

It has been months and I am still having this issue. This is actually my second iPhone 16 I am having more problems with this phone than the first one I got. I have been to Apple countless times and have spoken with senior advisors countless times and none of my issues were fixed. Diagnostic tests passed (even after the phone shut off randomly by itself) and I reset the phone as new and not from a back up and I’m still having problems. The lagging keyboard is driving me absolutely insane! The touchscreen is still unresponsive as well, even after updating the phone. This is by far the worst iPhone I have ever had and it makes me sick that I paid over $1000 for it when it doesn’t work as expected. I’m so tired of Apple not doing anything about this! Here are my other issues.. anyone else having them besides laggy keyboard?
