You can send a link to a file in iCloud, Share files and folders in iCloud Drive on iCloud.com - Apple Support
Thanks muguy!
I've tried these steps before but apparently I did something wrong. They worked this time.
I sent four files. I was surprisd to find the screens displayed after clicking on the  icon were not always the same. The first two had a link available, just as the steps say.
The last two offered the "Email" and "Copy Link" options via a different screen, but the "Copy Link" button didn't work. I had to click the "Email" button and then copy the link from the message.
"Whatever works," I always say! Thanks again!
