How to Resolve iPhone 16 Pro WiFi Connection Problems?

My iPhone 16 Pro won’t even connect to home WiFi.


Super frustrating.


I’ve restarted the phone, reset network settings, restarted my router (Unifi Dream Machine Pro) and no luck.


What a joke.


Have an old iPhone 8, X and 13 pro running on WiFi without issues.

I had the same problem. After trying Network reset etc. I delete the VPN App, which seemed to be the problem. Now it works.

Same problem 16 pro max. Apple needs do better this is the most underwhelming iPhone upgrade. I will be returning and going bk to my 13 pro max. Battery life also horrific. Also did everything from soft reset to VPN troubleshooting, resetting everything at home. Everyone’s else’s phone is fine, this happens everywhere for w every WiFi. Even if I swipe my screen down to the control panel my wifi spot is blue but above says not connected. Will not allow me to toggle wifi off and on in settings either.

Just want to back up the VPN solution - worked for me too!


I work with technology and do a decent amount of IT work so I usually feel confident in my abilities to sniff out what the problem is, but this one eluded me completely. Strangely, it had not installed the VPN app yet through restore so it didn't even occur to me that it might be somehow secretly be sitting in settings since... you know... it hadn't been installed yet but lo and behold - VPN settings had my app AND had the "turn on on demand" toggled. Untoggled and removed VPN from Settings and voila.

None of this stuff solved it for me but I found a *somewhat fix* that is not really satisfying but works.

I didn't get into the advanced solutions proposed on the linked page. However, what I found is that my office has slightly less perfect Wi-Fi than the rest of the house. I could connect to my wifi from the other rooms just fine. Once I stepped into my office (where all my laptops and other phones stay connected fine) the iPhone 16 would drop the network and be unable to reconnect.

So, I turned of 6hz and now it stays connected MOST OF THE TIME. All of my previous phones and laptops have no problem. This phone just has a super low tolerance for less-than-perfect wifi connections and I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS A PROBLEM. First iPhone in a decade and couldn't be more disappointed in something so simple.

Trying to set up a new phone and I have two local wifi networks. Both phone says that neither is connected to the internet, yet my Mac Mini is using the same network. I deleted my VPN connection and now it works..I just purchased two phones..cant believe that they are this far into the release and having this problem..I use VPN for a reason..what a PIA!

Connecting to the Web:

A. Close All Apps:

Apps may be open that are stalled. So, save what need be, and then close all apps. Hold you finger down as you swipe up form the bottom-left corner of your screen. Then, close all of these open apps, by sweeping up quickly for all apps.


B. Update your New iPhone:

Try updating it to that, seeing if that fixes this. Important: Be certain to create a backup of your iPhone prior to bring it in. That way, you can have something to restore your iPhone from, should anything go wrong after the update install. Use a Computer for this:  Update your iPhone Using a Computer - User Tip

It's most unlikely a software issue which waiting for an update will likely resolve. If you had a VPN, did you remove not just the VPN, but the VPN profile in Settings > General > VPN & Device Management? VPNs are awful on iPhone in so many ways. If there's a trace of it remaining on your iPhone, it can cause such issues.


If I were you, I'd backup my iPhone on your home computer with either iTunes (Windows) or Finder (Mac), then restore the phone from that backup using your computer. This will install a fresh version of iOS in the process and hopefully, wipe any trace of the VPN from your phone. Make sure you deleted the profile where I recommended before doing this.
