Can’t ID plants in photos after iOS 18.0 update

Mjfjhag, I have a 12 pro running iOS 18. Look at Settigns>apps>Phtoos

I just updated to iOS 18.1 as well and still can’t ID either. But if you go to settings then search then show related content. Mine is on but it’s not making a difference for me.

I should have said that if the service does NOT recognize the plant, the "i" in the circle will not have any tiny stars at the edge. Try a better photo, or go closer in to the foliage or blossoms.

It seems like the iOS 18.0 update might have affected the plant identification feature on your iPhone. You may want to reach out to Apple Support for assistance.

I have everything turned on, in Siri, search and photos as suggested. I have turned all the sliders on and off and have restarted the phone - no luck. 15 pro max running 18.0. Annoying. Any other suggestions?

I have this same problem, using Iphone 13 mini. However, I do not have the “Enhanced Visual Search” option. I have tried all the above suggestions to no avail. Is the 13 mini so much different then the others that makes this so difficult? Running ios 18.1. Thanks everyone.

I have Show content on plus Enhanced and it still does not work? Just an i for info and no result. I have switched my phone off twice. iPhone 15 Pro. I regret doing the 18 upgrade! Apple needs to sort this out.

I also updated to 18.1.1 and my photos will not tell me the plant name anymore. I already have the "Ensure Show Featured Content and Enhanced Visual Search" on. I restarted my phone, I turned the settings off and on again. There is NO information in the (i) area for nam. I have an iPhone 14. I also do NOT see the show related content.

Any other ideas??

For no apparent reason, the ID function has started working again. Strange as I did nothing - as in my previous post- all of the appropriate functions were turned on with no luck. Pleased that whatever the glitch was, it has disappeared.

I’ve been aware for months of losing the plant identification feature in my Photos. Today I decided to search the web for answers.

I’m on a 14 Pro iPhone running iOS 18.3.2 and I checked that all the toggles mentioned in the helpful posts here are on. They are. When I tap the information button (i in a circle) there’s no option to search or to identify the plant. A lot of the posts here date from last fall, but this appears to still be an issue in March 2025.

This feature used to work well and I never asked for it to go away. I’m trying to understand if it’s possible to get it back and how to accomplish that.

Hi Guys. Here’s the thing. The plant ID feature was so cool and we all loved it! Right? So they removed it. Now there are several plant ID apps that you can get in the App Store. You have to pay for them! So, Apple gave us a great feature and then took it away so they can make even more money by selling apps to the plant ID companies. The thing about the plant ID apps is they can give you more information than you want in order to justify the cost to you. All I want is the name of the plant I’m looking at. Just the name, please. For that reason I have not downloaded a plant ID app.

I did the search as suggested on the Home Screen search window and in settings and 'show related content' yields nothing in either case. I have an iPhone 15 with the 18.3.2 version software. I was with a friend and we both took pictures of the same plant at the same distance and same time. For her dots and leaf showed up under the i on the picture and for me, nothing. I dont understand it and I dont know what to do. Any help appreciated! Thanks. Screen shots of where to type and what would be helpful so I could check I have the right settings at least.

reread his answer, you want to find "Search" follow his instructions once you find that, he confused us with saying he was first looking for "show related content" that is not what you want....Good luck!

I just bought an iphone 16 pro and I cannot get it to identify plants and flowers in my Photos. Nothing I do gives me a leaf or an i with stars. I was really looking forward to doing this with my new phone because I never was able to get my iphone 14 to do it. I see others are having the same issue.
