The styles option does not appear when I attempt to edit a photo in the photos app after iOS 18.0.1 update

The styles option does not appear when I attempt to edit a photo in the photos app. I have a 16 pro max with the latest iOS update 18.0.1.

I do still show the filters, but not styles. What do I do?

Even with high-efficiency turned on I still can’t adjust the photographic style of my photo after I shot it. All that shows up is filters

I am having the exact same problem. Received my iPhone 16 pro (iOS 18.01) on September 30 by mail. The styles option does not show up in the photos app. Instead, the photo app has the filters option. To be clear, the styles option does show up and works in the camera app, but just not the photos app. So, I can't edit styles after the picture as been taken. Help! Need to fix this.

I guess people aren’t understanding, I was able to edit with the styles when I first got my phone as I’m sure the others were also. My camera is set on high efficiency, so that isn’t the answer. I can take a picture using the styles, but not edit them. I guess I hadn’t taken any pictures since the update?? Fix it back the way it was Apple!!

In order to have the styles option under a photo in your photos app, you must have your camera set to shoot in high efficiency, and not in most compatible. Go to settings, scroll down to camera, scroll down to formats, and make sure high-efficiency is checked and not most compatible. You will then have the styles option under your photo in your photos app..

I'm having the same problem intermittently and it's driving me crazy.

iPhone 16 pro on iOS 18.0.1

  • High Efficiency camera capture
  • 24mp photo mode
  • HEIF Max format

I would take a picture at 2x at home and I can't edit the photographic style right after. I go outside later and take another picture at 2x and I can edit it in Photos right after I take the picture. I get back home open that same picture again and I can't edit the photographic style anymore. 1x pictures don't seem to be affected by this problem as much. 0.5x, 2x and 5x all seem to have a mind of their own. Sometimes they can be edited even days after taking the picture, sometimes only right after and sometimes I can't even edit it right after taking the picture.

This is yet another feature I cannot seem to get even though my husband has the same phone and his appears. I got my phone first, his came a week later-is there a difference in the earlier phones? I am beginning to wonder. My stickers do not work, I do not have the styles option, I bought this phone for all these types of features...no end in sight on a fix. I regret buying the 16 pro more each day, my phone feels-not finished.

I have an iPhone 12, and it apparently doesn't do styles. But I found this:

Use Photographic Styles with your iPhone camera - Apple Support

You guys probably know all this, but where in the process does it go wrong?

Stephappens, you're in an especially useful place, because you can compare with a phone that works. I've heard of some other effects that differ between similar phones in iOS 18. Maybe more information will help someone figure it out.

Another option is to talk to someone at Apple Support. I've had good luck with them helping me.

Absolutely the same. All the right settings enabled. And even the sams shot, but different pictures in a difference of few seconds - one has the Style edit in photos, after clicking the "Edit" button - and the other picture does not. High efficiency, blah blah blah - everything is set correct according to Apple. And it still does not work. What the actual...? Why did I pay 1,5k € for this android level nonsense? 18.1 iOS.

I went out yesterday and took 22 pictures in 21 minutes.

I am running iOS 18.1.1.

I DO NOT have Pro Raw turned on

I've restarted my phone. Many times.

Again, as I've replied before in this thread: this is driving me insane. I switched from an iPhone 11 Pro to 16 pro. It would be nice if I only had to deal with the bad computational photography.

The idea behind photographic styles is great and it really simplifies my workflow. Right now it works at random and although it's supposed to be non destructive, I cannot go back and remove it from the pictures I want.

The resolution for me was changing the format to High Efficiency AND turning off ProRAW for photos you’ll want to use the Styles option with. This has to be done before you take the picture. It will not work with photos taken without these settings prior to taking the photo.

Note: you can leave ProRAW on in settings and just turn it off in the camera (top right next to Live Photo icon) before you take the picture.
