Apple Pay not working for on line payments

Apple Pay works in store but not on line. I’ve tied everything recommended including logging out of Apple ID & back in ( what a pain that is re-loading all the cards) turning on & off and I’m up to date with the operating system. This just happened out of the blue and it’s very frustrating. I’m in area and nothing has changed it just stopped working …. Says something like “transaction failed” or “payment failed” can they fix this in an Apple Store

OK thanks. I’ll try it with a different merchant. If that still doesn’t work I’ll probably go for the genius bar, albeit making an appointment is like Theseus navigating the maze without his ball of string. If you have advice about the best route into the maze to make an appointment that would be very helpful. Unlike most everything else about apple it is neither intuitive nor user friendly
