Since MacOS 15.1 update I have a very slow keyboard input for iMessage and WhatsApp. I have turned off VPN just in case.
Those are the only two apps where this happens.
CPU usage is very low on both apps
Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have got the same problem. It is super laggy in whatsapp with Mac 15.1
I have these issues across all messaging apps including iMessage, ConnectTeam and Whatsapp. The lag makes text entry almost unbearable. I often have to write a message in an email draft and paste it in to the messaging app. 2020 M1 MBP with 16GB RAM. It started with Sequoia .0 and stayed the same with .1
Stopping real time protraction with Sophos improved (not completely) Whatsapp and iMessage but not ConnectTeam
This is interesting because it's now three messaging platforms (Messages, Whatsapp, ConnectTeam) that have lag due to real-time file scanning. Signal is not affected by the issue. It begs the question of the difference in writing to local files between the apps.
I can confirm this is happening to me as well. MacOS Sequoia 15.1.1 causes an extremely laggy typing experience in messaging apps such as WhatsApp.
It is discouraging that this was reported almost a month ago and still has not been fixed.

I also have the same problem as you (MB-pro M1-pro). I restarted the Mac and it seems to improve the situation. I hope I can help you
I've 2 Mac, one face this issue but not the other.
the one with this issue is M1 MBA with 16GB RAM,
The one that has no issue is M1 Max MBP with 64GB RAM
I have got the same problem! Waiting next update to fix it.
In my case I could fix it! The problem was Sophos endpoint, I uninstalled and the problem vanished.
I was suspecting it I have Microsoft Defender. Will see if I can turn it off and recheck.

I am facing the same porblem on both of my Macbook Pro (M1 and M3)
Same here - I have the lagging issue with WhatsApp.

Same here, M1 Max, 32Gb, 2To, Sequoia 15.1 (24B83), the inputs on iMessage & WhatsApp are super laggy, almost impossible to use. A shame :(.

Same here as soon as I updated to 15.1 (MacBook Air M2).
Any workaround so far?
If it affects iMessage, then Apple will fix it! (Cynical user here!)
It fixes it for about 10 minutes, and it comes back, did the same thing with Sophos, does not fix it.
