Import Safari Bookmarks corrupt

I have a bunch of Safari Bookmarks (40+) I've exported to .HTML file

In order to clear up a few things i open in TextEdit as i don't need to overwrite the default Apple ones, only add my custom ones..

However i found out quickly, even without making any chances in TextEdit,, (just erly opening and lcosing) corrupts the file..

when i try and import now it won't.. Thank good i can copy and paste all URL's from the file and re-bookmark them all again very quickly if i have to start over, but it would be better if i could know why would a html file become corrupted just by opening in another app? TextEdit support HTML

I don't think it would be solved if i views in Plain Text as that's just merely changing viewing modes only.

I gave up and decided to open these up in Safari and just re-add all my bookmarks back..

Lesson learnt.. I was wondering it's some encoding that's different than what HTML does.

But there is no tags to this in Safari when viewing as "Plain Text"

FYI, TextEdit is a terrible app. I think it has an auto-save enabled which cannot be changed (at least through any GUI settings anyway). TextEdit has burned me multiple times over the years because of it.
