Finder still losing sidebar links to folders

As reported over a year ago, Finder is still regularly losing both the (folder) links in the sidebar (including the Documents, Desktop, Download folders), and also reverting to the root directory for all open Finder windows and Finder Tabs across several desktops on my Mac. I have 7 Finder windows open over two desktops, some with up to three tabs in each Finder window, and one linked to my iCloud account folder. This has never been a problem since the Mac was new (three years ago), but started to randomly occur over 12-18 months ago. Worked perfectly fine until then

My previous thread is no longer active, and no solution was reached then

How can I stop the reversion to root directory and loss of links from taking place - most frustrating, and time wasting

(and on a reboot Finder windows disappear for external HD connections (of which I have three sole Finder windows assigned to these HD's)

It will help us get a good idea of what is causing your problem if you provide a report of your system, that way we do not have to play 20 questions with you. The report we are requesting does NOT provide any personal information and is extremely safe to use. Please navigate towww.Etrecheck.com and download the free version of EtreCheck. Once you have you downloaded the app and installed it, please run the report and save it. This report will help us get a good idea what has been installed on your system and help us be able to diagnose what may be wrong.

When you have your report, you can attach it when you reply to this message and we can then review it and help you determine what is needed to get your system running well again.

I don't see any of the normal software suspects however I see some pretty old software. My suspicion is you have some outdated software that may be causing a problem. Which app, it's difficult to say.

My suggestion is to go through all of your third party apps and ensure they are up-to-date. After you have done that chore, restart in Safe Mode per the directions in Safe Mode and then restart normally and test.

I see you have a Wacom tablet installed, these have had history of causing issues with Mac OS too so that is where I'd start. If the problem persists with all of your third party apps updated then I'd uninstall the Wacom and test the computer (do another Safe Mode restart after uninstalling) and then test again, if the problem goes away then you have found what was causing it.

Finally I see you have a farm of external HD's connected, it is possible one of them is causing a problem, especially if you use ANY of their apps.

I have installed the WD app, it originally self installed when a new HD was attached. Don't think I need it as I have never used an external HD software in the past, as I work through Finder all the time. Although I would say that the issue predates the Finder current issues I am experiencing. But if WD removal helps then that is a step in the right direction. I will aim to tackle the Wacom issue also
