using accented vowels in Outlook365 mail

Hi all,

I have an imac and use Outlook365 web app for emails. I cannot seem to find a way to compose an english-language email (I;m in the US and it's my default) and insert accented vowels -- the pop up menu that follows the keystrokes does not give me choices.

anyone out there help me out? much appreciated :)

hi again - the solution is to use the Option key ...it worked for me in word -- thanks again :)

But what if you want a different sort of accent, like a grave or umlaut? Don't worry – there are option key combos for those, too (and more).

  • Option + ` + letter = grave accent à, è, ì, ò, or ù (like this: Voilà)
  • Option + i + letter = circumflex accent â, ê, î, ô, or û (like this: Crêpe)
  • Option + n + letter = eñe character ñ, ã, or õ (like this: El Niño)
  • Option + u + letter = umlaut accent ä, ë, ï, ö, or ü (like this: Über)
  • Option + a or Shift + Option + A (for capital A) = å or Å
  • Option + ' or Shift + Option + ' = æ or Æ (ligatured ae)
  • Option + q or Shift + Option + Q (for capital letters) = œ or Œ
  • Option + c or Shift + Option + C (for capital) = ç or Ç
  • Option + o or Shift + Option + O (for capital) = ø or Ø

If you activate the Character Viewer you can call up all kinds of accented letters, emoji & more.

Go to Settings > Keyboard > Text Input > Edit and select Show input menu in menu bar.

You should then get this icon in the upper right of your display:

When you click it, you should see this:

Select "Show emoji & symbols" and you will get the full Character Viewer. Select "Latin" in the left pane and then you can scroll through all letters A-Z plus special characters including accented letters. Select the one you want, copy & paste into your document.
