Desktop cluttered with duplication of countless files

Ventura OS. 13.3.1

For some reason my desktop is suddenly cluttered with hundred of files! Like they have been duplicated over and over or something! I have no idea how it happened or if I did something inadvertently for this to happen but wow I know I need to find out how to rectify it without losing any files.

( I have added an opaque layer over the screenshot to just protect the info). What do I do? Thanks

Right-click on your Desktop and on the secondary menu, choose Use Stacks and Group Stacks By > Kind. That will clean up your Desktop. See Use desktop stacks on Mac - Apple Support

Also, considering Ventura 13.7.1 has been released, it might be time to apply all of the performance, security, and bug fixes that Apple has added since 13.3.1. On System Settings > General > Software Update panel, it will probably show Sequoia v15.1 today. Scroll down until you see the hyperlink Another update is available… and click that. It will show the current version of Ventura and probably Safari that will be installed without installing Sequoia.
