My next "interim" Mac purchase

My Apple purchase history (not including iPhones):

iMacBondi Blue (1998), 17" PowerBook G4 (2003), MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015).

I plan on getting a desktop system (most likely a Mac Mini) in a year or two for professional level photographic work (no professional video). Budget is delaying that for now. However, I am currently running Catalina on my MacBook and web sites are loading painfully slow or won't load their photos. (I tried Big Sur and didn't like it, neither did my Mac - went back to Catalina.)

I'm looking to buy something to get me by until I can get my desktop. I'm thinking of the 13" M2 MacBook Air with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD. I'd pretty much just be using this for the web - surfing, shopping, banking, email.

Does this make sense?

Hey Roxi;

At the professional level, an M2 MacBook Air should do the trick - I would personally recommend the 16GB RAM option if you do end up planning to do any real editing work, but for the activities you mentioned (surfing, shopping, banking, email), the current spec you plan on buying will work perfectly fine.

My main photo editing Mac is the same as yours. The Mac I'm typing this on is a M2 MBA with basic 8 gigs of ram 256HD. I've also done photo editing on this unit. Both work perfectly fine for photo editing. If your editing software runs okay your Mac doesn't know if you are a pro or not so that won't be an issue.
