Hi, I'm trying to download the free trial to my M1 Max MacBook Pro but I can't make it work. Any work arounds?
Many Thanks!

Are you running macOS 14.4 as it says in your profile? You may need to update the OS (I believe the latest Sonoma is something like 14.7). IIRC, FCP 11 requires at least Sonoma 14.6, or Sequoia.

If he’s on Sonoma 14.4 he should have the option to update to a later version of Sonoma which will work with the software. The software works on both Intel and Apple Silicon, though some features are not available in Intel or Sonoma.
No, you need to update to Sequoia. It won't work on anything less.
It will take about an hour or so to perform the update. . . . most of that time being spent downloading it.
I downloaded it but when I try to open it says: This package is incompatible with this version of MacOS. It may work with an OS update. I thought it was more a problem between M1 chip vs Intel.
Thanks

No, it is not a problem of Apple Silicon vs Intel. It needs the OS to be at least 14.6. It is as simple as that.
As Ian pointed out if you can't, for some reason, update your OS, you need to try a different alternative.
But I can't see any obvious reason why you would not at least update from 14.4 to 14.7 and enjoy FCP.
If you can't or don't want to upgrade your macOS you can always download the FREE version of DaVinci Resolve which is just as capable as FCP and is not as fussy about the operating system.

Wish I could, need to edit this project in FCP
thanks
What about iMovie? It's basically a cutdown version of FCP?
What do you mean by, "I can't make it work".
You can't download it or you can't get it to open?
According to the release notes you need Sequoia.
I stand or more accurately, sit corrected! 🥸
Yes, the minimum requirements are Sonoma 14.6 although a number of new features require Sequoia.
