Hello can you tell me how many external HDMI monitors the new 2024 iMac can support - looks to me the apple website states 2 6k monitors but I remember reading somewhere up to 8 external monitors are suported - Thanks
Display support depends on the specific model. See:

But none can support up to eight external monitors. Two is the maximum. You may be misremembering from the support for 8K monitors (not 8 monitors).

The Macs that support up to 8 external monitors are the M2 Ultra Mac Studio and the M2 Ultra Mac Pro minitower.
Prices start at $3999 for the M2 Ultra Mac Studio, and at $6999 for the M2 Ultra Mac Pro. (Keyboard, mouse, and monitors are extra.)
The 24" M4 iMac supports either one or two external monitors, depending on which variant you purchase. It does not have HDMI ports – but you can get USB-C to HDMI adapters.
