No internet via wifi following upgrade to macOS Sonoma 14.7.1

Ok so I just upgraded my macbook air early 2019 (1.6ghz i5 8gb ram) model to macOS sonoma 14.7.1 and now my internet over wifi connection is about as stable as a meth head 2 days into withdrawal. I can get the macbook to connect reliably to the internet via hotspot to my iphone.

So basically under a wifi network chrome will give err_internet_not_connected. Safari gives the same error just it's safari version. Occassionally I will get a DNS resolution error message as the connection over wifi is coming back and then the page will reload only to have the internet over wifi die again within a minute or two.

Note the wifi connection itself never dips it's just the connection being useable to access the internet or any resource on my network. Also note that I have mesh wifi networking with the mesh wifi node less then 1 meter away and ALL my other devices including my iphone can access the internet via this network using the same configuration.

So here's what I've done so far.

Turn wifi off and on

Forget and reconnect wifi network

restart computer > used to get internet working again for a little bit but now doesn't do anything after restart

wireless diagnostics will fix the issue temporarily before it dies again shortly thereafter

verified DNS in wifi settings > details for my network shows the dns ip address is the same as my internal router ip address **** I even tried adding google's 8.8.8.8 as well just for fun and taking it out

firewall is off > toggled it on (no improvement) toggled it off

Date and Time is autoset, toggled it on and off (sometimes that fixes no internet over wifi)

Created test admin account same issue and I can't even connect to iphone hotspot on that account so worse then original admin account.

ping my router gives timeout packet loss

At this point I even tried to reinstall macOS via both Cmd + r (unable to contact recovery server)

and shift + option + cmd + r > unable to install error -1008F (though I did have findmy on when I tried this so I'll try again with it off just to see if it makes a difference)

So any thoughts or help on what I other options I can try. I'm about ready to go out and buy a flash drive and download a bootable installer and revert this machine back to ventura cause sonoma is noticably poorer performance.

Ok so after disabling find my attempting to reinstall macOS I encountered a -2002f error which is a network problem it really hates my network config post update so I made a guest network without any security or password and that did the trick shift option command r is reinstalling with Mojave (streuth this aught to be interesting) and I’ll reupgrade back to Ventura

So the problem I’m guessing is my network config is a tp-link archer 600 with smart connect enabled.

this essentially combines the 2.4 and 5gz bandwidths into a single unified network that smartly connects via whatever bandwidth your device needs and I’m thinking something in the latest sonoma update really really doesn’t like this
