Can an update be installed if Touch ID is not enabled on iPhone?

Basically, the descriptive title asks the question.

Since iOS 17, Apple prevents you from turning off your passcode while Touch ID is set up.

Therefore, must you delete your Touch ID fingerprint before installing an iOS update? The iOS will install automatically, and if it does while Touch ID is enabled, will I be locked out of your iPhone afterwards?

Thanks for your replies.
