Apple music via Carplay sounds distorted, yet Spotify and Podcast sound fine

I have a car screen that supports apple carplay in my car. My iphone 15 pro max connects to it fine and when i use spotify, youtube, netflix, podcast, etc. the audio is fine. but when i play music on Apple music, the audio is garbled and distorted. This is true whether i am streaming music or playing actual mp3s that i have downloaded to my phone.

when i use the apple music app with bluetooth headphones, speakers or the iphone speaker it sounds fine. the problem only exist with apple carplay. EQ and sound check are both off.
