Gray Desktop appears after using shuffle Screensaver

On MacAir M3 (2024) running 15.1.1 and using System>Screensaver>shuffle all everything worked fine for maybe a week and then it started showing a gray screen after waking up.

found solutions online that said to fix with (1) Terminal>killall Dock or (2) making a new desktop "space", but neither of those helped. Instead, it was fixed after redoing: System>Screensaver>shuffle all.

But, you shouldn't have to do that, right?

Then I would not use shuffle if it is an issue.

Wait. Am I understanding right? Are you suggesting that if a feature doesn't work the solution is to not use it?

"It's doesn't work for you? Then I suggest you don't use it" -- either I'm in the Twilight Zone or I must be missing something here...

I have been running 15.1.1 -- so that is not the problem

I do not know how to state it any more clearly
