want to set up assistive touch to bypass double click side button but it still requires side button to confirm

If I go to settings accessibility - Touch- and scroll to the bottom to confirm with AssistiveTouch it prompts me to double click the side button. I have issues with my fingers and although I have successfully been able to double click a few times it asked me for my pass code. When I enter it it does not toggle this on.
