Converting a downloaded file to MP3

I downloaded an album from iTunes with no problem. Now I'm trying to convert it to an MP3 file so I can burn it to a CD for my car. I keep getting an error message that a problem occurred in the conversion process with no further explanation. I've signed off and signed back on but still have the problem. As usual the Help menu is of no benefit because Ithe purchase has been completed and I'm not trying to download it to a device. ANy help would be appreciated.

See Convert music file formats in iTunes on PC - Apple Support. You cannot convert protected media (most pre-2010 purchases, or Apple Music subscription content), or anything that is currently in the cloud. Does the track play correctly? You might backup the file you have, then right-click > Remove download, and download a fresh copy. You can burn a mix of MP3 and AAC content to an audio disc so you would only need to convert the track if you're trying to use it with a device that only supports MP3 CD and not multiple formats.
