Is the drive SSD or HDD and is it formatted as APFS or MacOS Extended?? APFS is very slow on a HDD.
Try again... Can you boot into Recovery mode? If you can, prepare a bootable macOS USB installer or use Internet Recovery if that Mac supports it. Resetting PRAM and SMC might help in some cases... If all else fails, erase the whole device (not just volumes under it) -- HDD as MacOS Extended (GUID) or SSD as APFS. The internal drive might be on its last leg, though.
I connected an external hard drive to my iMac and then installed high Sierra it's way faster but the boot time is still at least 10 minutes and EtrecheckPro on my internal hard drive said my performance was good but when i tried to save it crashed
I managed to get it running but it took over 7 minutes to boot up.After that I barely can use it everything is extremely slow.I tried to open safari and search for something and it was stuck on loading so long that i tried to turn it off but that also took over 5 minutes to get to turn it off. After that it was stuck on black screen with just my cusor for multiple minutes before it finally shut down completely.
It's Mac os extended (Journaled) because on APFS I couldn't install high Sierra at all.I will try to run EtrecheckPro
