Why are my Apple Music songs grayed out on my MacBook?

I have loaded hundreds of songs onto my MacBook Air. Most are grayed out and unplayable. They are visible and playable on my iPhone 13. Incredibly frustrating. Is it because I opted in to 3 free months of Apple Music?

If I cancel Apple Music will I lose those songs or get them back? If I click on "find in Apple Store" it wants to charge me for a song I've owned from a CD for years! Please, I'm a music junkie and have over 1000 playable songs on my I-Phone, only half or less are playable on MacBook.
