Deleting a cell removes the entire row in Numbers

When I add rows to my numbers table it copies information from the cells above. If I try and erase the contents in any of these cells it just deletes the row. These are tables that have been filtered down from a bigger table.

How do I erase contents without deleting the row or how do I add rows without copying content from the cells above.

Essentially I want to add blank rows to which I can apply new formulas and/or data.

You mentioned "filter". If there is a filter on the table and you delete a cell that is being checked by the filter, it might filter/hide the row. For example, say I have a filter to show only rows where column B is equal to 1. When I add a new row, that row will get a 1 in column B (otherwise it would be immediately filtered out). If I delete the 1, the row gets filtered out. It is still in the table, I just don't see it anymore.
