How can I transfer Printer Drivers between iMacs?

Printer Canon ImageRunner Advance 5045

I'm migrating from mid 2011 10.13.6 iMac to late 2013 10.15.7 iMac. I cannot use Migration. 2013 can find the Canon but only installs a generic PS driver. This won't work - doesn't know 11x17 paper size. I got a driver install package from Canon which installs a European driver that won't print. What files from 2011 do I copy to the 2013 to get the 2011 version of the driver on the newer machine?

That Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5045 printer is quite old, and doesn’t appear to offer vendor drivers for anything recent.

Based in the tech specs, that printer doesn’t support AirPrint, but does support IPP/IPPS, so you may not need to find and install vendor drivers for the common printing functions.

Using Safari, visit the following local website: https://localhost:631/printers/

You’ll probably get a message about that web interface being disabled.

If so, launch Terminal app from Applications > Utilities, and enter the following command, and press return:

cupsctl WebInterface=yes

Now check the website again.

If it’s working, you should be able to add the printer via the Administration tab > Add Printer, and follow the prompts shown. If CUPS is looking for a username and password, that’s going to be your own login username and password for your Mac login. You’ll will want to use IPP/IPPS for printing, and you will need to know the printer IP address.

Then you’re left to customize the CUPS environment, if needed.
