Apple Smart Battery Case no longer works for the camera application in iOS 18

I have a few apple smart battery cases for the iPhone 11 Pro Max with the camera button on the side. Since upgrading to iOS 18 this no longer works as expected. The camera button works to open the camera app but no longer works to take photos or start recording videos. As I have a few of these devices it isn’t isolated to one device.
