How do I avoid Ear Canal Sweating with AirPods on?

I think this is what's happening, but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.

Full disclosure: I do sweat a decent amount. Do ear canals sweat? Anyway, here are the series of events:

  1. Place AirPods in ears and play inspirational music
  2. Start running
  3. Debate life choices (internal monologue)
  4. Start sweating
  5. One or both of the AirPods starts to get quieter (sometimes I think I can hear/feel moisture in my ear canal)
  6. Sound gets completely muffled in a water-entering-ear-while-swimming kind of way
  7. Take headphone(s) out, hearing is fine (no actual fluid in ears)
  8. Place headphone(s) back in, still muffled

I have tried to blow into the hole in the AirPod thinking a drip of sweat got in there, but it doesn't make a difference. There doesn't seem to be a quick/easy remedy. I usually just toss them off to the side and finish my run sans tunes. Usually by the time I go to use them later on or the next day, they are working fine.

Anyone else? If so, what's actually going on? Is there a way to fix it while continuing to run? I do not enjoy running long distances with only my thoughts and heavy breathing to keep me moving...
