Password change does not trigger 2 factor protection

Logging into iCloud.com in Windows. 2- factor security working and permission asked on my iphone.

Then changing the appleID password works and change happens, however without asking 2factor authentication on my iPhone.

Is that intentional? Latest iphone latest iOS.

Two-factor authentication, iCloud for Windows I have iCloud for windows on my laptop, have allowed iCloud Keychain and use the iCloud Passwords extension on Microsoft Edge browser. When I activate Keychain to obtain a password, the 2-factor dialogue box appears to enter the 6-digit code, however the code to enter also appears on my screen in the lower right corner. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of having 2-factor authentication? If the code to enter appears on the same device where the code is to be entered? Shouldn't the code appear on my phone or other iCloud enabled device? See image. (The 6-digit code appears where the black box is and was not allowed to be captured by snipping tool) When I log into icloud.com the 2-factor authentication code comes to my phone (as it should). Have I set it up incorrectly or is this a flaw? The same issue happened when I used to use the Chrome extension.

If I need to sign in to Apple ID, Icloud etc, I receive the code on the same device that I am trying to log in on. this is NOT 2 factor authentication. Additionally, when I just changed my apple ID password using my Macbook Pro, I could not log-in to apple ID using the same password on my phone. When I requested to change my Apple ID password on the phone, I was able to use the same password as the new password, eventually. However, I am quite confused about how this is supposed to work, because it doesn't. The reason I needed to change my password was because I received a notification that someone tried to change my Apple ID password. So I decided I had better try to change it myself. this proved difficult, as some devices would not work with the new password. I wanted to change my apple ID itself, but since it needs to be a valid email address, this is not possible. Why can't we use a different user ID than an email address? This seems to be a major security vulnerability, as millions of people know what my email address is and can request to change the password. And because Apple 2-factor authentication sends the security code to the requesting device, it is not a secure system. Very much a flawed system.

Authentication with Apple ID I wanted to ask this to the community. Does anyone know of a way to change 2FA for Apple ID sign in, so that only phone authentication is allowed even if trusted devices include iPads? I am IT for a client, and say someone wants to change the password, all they have to do is do the 'forgot password" and they are prompted to enter a 6 digit code to any of the trusted devices signed in. Or say, they want to login the account in the browser appleid.apple.com, the first prompt is to enter the 6 digit code. On my own account only my phone is in the trusted devices so the only prompt I get is to my phone. Has anyone see a way to change it so it doesn't send the code to all devices but goes straight to a trusted phone? Thanks.
