My playlists in itunes have all disappeared

After opening my itunes earlier this week, I discovered all my playlists were gone. How could this happen? Also I created a few new playlists and attempted to import them into my Sonus system but they do not appear in Sonus, but my original playlists are there. I just want my new playlists to be imported by Sonus. Any ideas?
