How to Access the Calibri font in 2025 via my Mac Office installation?

How do I access the Calibri font so that I can install it as a system-wide font, for use in all programs, not just my Microsoft products?

Old posts (circa 2018) on this site suggest Microsoft fonts could once be found in a 'Fonts' folder inside the Resources of the Microsoft Word application in the Mac's applications folder, but this is no longer true. I don't see that 'Fonts' folder on my system.

Does someone know how to find those fonts on a Mac that has the Word 365 suite installed?

even /Library/Fonts now

I hadn't heard of that one, so I of course had to test it. 🙂

There's nothing preventing the user from adding fonts to that folder. It doesn't even ask for an admin password.

Not that it's usually necessary. The only reason to put fonts there is if you want all user accounts on that Mac to have access to the same fonts without having to duplicate them in each user account.

Font Book will also put any fonts you activate into the root /Library/Fonts folder if you have its preferences set that way.

I just downloaded the latest Word installer from Microsoft's download page. The Calibri fonts are still in the same place:

/Microsoft Word/Contents/Resources/DFonts

Fonts are:

Calibri.ttf

Calibrib.ttf

Calibrii.ttf

calibril.ttf

calibrili.ttf

Calibriz.ttf

I would imagine if I download the full 365 installer, I'd find the same fonts embedded in Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

With Sonoma, you can no longer install fonts for System-wide usage because the operating system is on a read-only, code-signed volume. You cannot install into /System/Library/Fonts or even /Library/Fonts now and that blocks other applications from having access to these Microsoft fonts.

If you wanted large-scale font name duplications with System-installed fonts, you could copy the Microsoft Word Dfont folder to your /Users/username/Library/Fonts folder. That is the third System font search folder and the Microsoft fonts would appear in the font menus of other applications.

You could also copy the Word > Dfonts > Calibri*.* family into the local Fonts library above and the only duplication would be with Microsoft apps, but your other applications would see the Calibri family in their font menu.
