Overlapping text in Numbers spreadsheet file on MacBook Pro

Here's what has happened to many, not all, but many of the cells in a large business Numbers (spreadsheet) file. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it, please?

My first guess would be that the original spreadsheet used specific fonts that are not available on the current machine.

When this happens, Numbers will substitute the missing font with its default, but text size and spacing often doesn't correlate.

As for fixes... installing the missing font would be ideal. Failing that you probably need to select the affected tables/cells and use the Text Inspector to change the font to something that displays well.
