Transcribing m4a audio file on Mac Sonoma 14.5

Using Apple's Shortcuts, you can right-click on an .m4a audio file in the Finder, transcribe it to text, rename that text file, and then choose where to save it.

By clicking this link, this Shortcut will be downloaded and you will be prompted to install it. I believe it will be automatically active, and then all you need to do in the Finder is right-click on your .m4a audio file, and from the secondary Finder menu, choose Quick Actions > Audio (.m4a) to Text. Follow the prompts and the resulting audio will be saved as text in the file transcribed.txt in the folder you designate.

Do you need the Mac to do the transcribing, or do you have to listen to the audio and type the words yourself, such as medical transcription service?

If you have to manually transcribe the audio, then I suggest using the Applications-> Books app, and treat the audio file as an audiobook. The Books app will remember where you last stopped the playback.
