Time Machine backups interfering with access external drive.

I have an external 14 TB drive connected to my Mac Studio. Nearly everything I do gets saved to that external drive. I also have a second 14TB drive which I use for my Time Machine backups, which is set to do hourly backups. Essentially, it's used to backup all of my work Photos/video/etc on the first drive. I've noticed that when it does its hourly backup it can sometimes interfere with me being able to access the first drive. Is there a way to avoid this, besides setting the backups to be less frequent..perhaps daily instead of hourly?
