Got the Mac basic programs working fine with Sonoma 14.3.1 on a Mac mini i5 (2011 ). Even though I can see, open, etc.a satellite HD, TimeMachine does not startup a backup file on that same HD. Jim

You are running an unsupported configuration which is not supported by Apple.
In fact, such a discussion on the official Apple forums is against the Terms & Conditions you agreed to when first accessing these forums.
While using this unsupported configuration you are on your own. Your only recourse is to contact those people who provided you with the system modifications for assistance if you wish to continue using that configuration.
Otherwise, remove those third party modifications and reinstall macOS 10.13 High Sierra. Or install Linux Mint on the system.....we can assist people using Linux on a Mac although you will likely get more responses for Linux related issues on a Linux focused forum, but at least Linux discussion & support related to Apple hardware is permitted by the Terms & Conditions.
