What does “Shared Folder” do?

What does “Shared Folder” do. I see it when I go to “Get Info” when looking at my hard drive.

Ok thanks. I note that on my drive only “System” has Read and Write permissions. If I try to add another user it tells me I don’t have permissions to add another user. So for example if I try to add “Administrators” I get the message that I don’t have permission to do that.

"The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have the necessary permission."

Yes, it shows my name as administrator. Ah, I need, I think to "Allow this user to administer this computer", but that option is grayed out in the on position, and it says “You cannot remove yourself from administrators” which is not what I want to do anyway.

Possibly it won’t let me add myself because I’m already an administrator.

This all started when my Banktivity banking software could not access my account and said I had "read only” permissions so it wouldn’t allow me to download banking expenses and the like. It resolved after a restart. So, I’m not frantic and am happy with the way it is now but I still find it curious that I cannot add anyone and only “System” has read and write permissions.
