Two-factor authentication (2FA) recommendations

Pieter Arntz, a malware intelligence researcher wrote on January 27, 2025:

Enable two-factor authentication (2FA). If you can, use a FIDO2-compliant hardware key, laptop or phone as your second factor. Some forms of two-factor authentication (2FA) can be phished just as easily as a password. 2FA that relies on a FIDO2 device can’t be phished.

For someone in the Apple ecosystem (apple TV, apple watch, M2 Macbook Pro, M2 iPad Pro) what would you recommend for 2FA?

Apple has supported Security Keys for several years now. Here is some more information on their use and how to choose the right security key.

About Security Keys for Apple Account - Apple Support

Support for any security key is going to require an external connection, such as those from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. The Watch or Apple TV has no external interface where a security key would be useable on their own.
