It isn't clear if this is a printer issue or a Numbers issue.

Do other applications have issues printing to this printer?

Ultimately, all applications print through the MacOS print manager, so it shouldn't be an issue as to whether the printer 'recognizes' Numbers or not. The Print Manager takes care of that.

If the printer is having issues like this, I would expect it to be universal, not just Numbers-specific.

That doesn't necessarily solve the problem, but knowing if other apps do or do not exhibit the same problem will go a long way to diagnosing the issue.
