How can I resolve slow startup and stuck Apple logo screen on MacBook?

My Mac Book turns on sluggishly, and then sits on the Apple logo screen forever; won’t go past the logo screen. Anyone have a solution?

But now my macbook is stuck at apple logo and it doesnt even have the progress bar. Any suggestion for a workaround?
