What is the fundamental difference between the M processors

More likely it's an issue with the version of macOS or with other variables in the configuration of the Mac, not the processor itself. But without knowing what apps you're referring to, we can't offer any useful comments or suggestions.

For details of the Cider app and its platform support, best check with the vendor. That app seems to be a JavaScript app. The vendor has a Discord available for questions, too.

For some idea of the many differences among myriad Intel x86 processors, and among AMD processors, review the available errata. Or better yet, don’t review the errata, because you’ll wonder how anybody can keep it all working.
