How can I ensure all photos are safe during my iPhone switch?

So I'm trading in my phone soon, but don't want to lose any of my apps and photos.

my first question is- once I log in with the same Apple Account, will all my games will be there? How do I make sure all my apps are absolutely backed up in my account?

my second question is- all the photos I can't back up, will they still stay or are they completely erased forever, once I log into that new phone?

Im only given 5GB of icould storage for photos, but my phone had 38GB of photo storage. I don't want to lose all the memories I've captured in these photos.

Back up your photos to iCloud then when you get your new phone login to the same iCloud account.

If you do not have enough iCloud storage, the transfer iPhone feature provides unlimited iCloud storage until your new iPhone arrives.

General>Transfer or reset iPhone>Get started and follow the instructions on screen.

If you value your photos, you will find some way of backing them up. Either by purchasing more iCloud+ space and turning on iCloud Photos and waiting for your phone to complete synchronizing with iCloud, or by manually copying them all over a USB cable to a Mac or Windows PC.

The iCloud Photos approach has the advantage that

  • It is "set and forget" (as long as you do not run out of iCloud storage).
  • You can check on what photos made it to iCloud using any Web browser, even if your phone has been run over by a truck, and you do not have a replacement phone yet.
  • You can synchronize photos to other Apple devices (e.g., Macs, iPads) using the same Apple ID. There is even an iCloud for Windows that you can install on a Windows PC.

But manual import can work if you are methodical about doing it on a routine basis and not forgetting to back up the phone for a couple of years before catastrophe strikes.

It sounds like you've chosen to put all of your eggs in one easily-damaged basket. If

  • You forgot your passcode (so you had to reset and erase the phone to get back in), or
  • Your phone fell into the street and was run over by a truck, or
  • Your phone fell into water and stopped working, or
  • A thief stole your phone, and your only copies of your photos, with it

your photos would be gone, whether you wanted to lose them or not.
