How to use Mac.com email as primary

I’ve used Macs for many years. I started with a Mac.com address. I could not use the address when iCloud started so I used my yahoo.com address as a primary for Apple management. I still receive email on my Mac.com address on my iPad but I can’t get it to work on my Mac mini and new Airbook.

Is there a procedure to allow me to use the address on the other devices. Most of my email comes from that Mac.com address.

Am I supposed to have a separate email for my iMac like a Mac email address or just one that I’ve been using for my iPhone? Are you supposed to have your own Mac email address even though I have an iCloud email address? If so, what do I need to do in Laymans terms to create that account for my iMac since I don’t know what I’m doing I don’t want to ruin my computer in settings because I’ve been known to do things like that in the past, so I don’t mess with them. I know I learned to ask questions.

When I email something from this Mac, I want it to come from my actual email, not my iCloud email address. When people receive my emails from the iCloud email, their response goes there instead of my preferred email account.
