I tried to open some spreadsheets on my iMac and found I no longer have Numbers on the computer. The files are there, but the application to open them is totally absent.
Any ideas?

Have you tried finding the app with Spotlight (command-space bar)?
If it's really not there on your Mac then go to the Mac App Store and try redownloading it.
