iPhone 13 keeps unmuting my Phonak hearing aid.

This issue just started this weekend. iOS 18.4.1 on an iPhone 13. No problems at all. Then this weekend I started getting phone notification noises I’d never had before. Annoying but easy enough to fix. Switched off sounds on notifications. That’s when ANOTHER issue developed…

Now, whenever I have my hearing aid set to mute (like in loud environments or when I just want quiet) my iPhone will UNmute the hearing aid when the screen goes black. So, if I mute the hearing aid while looking at the phone, it stays mute…until I close the screen or put my phone in my pocket. Unmutes. Every single time. If I have it muted and my screen is black and I get a notification of some kind…guess what? Unmuted again. Very frustrating and it’s only happened this week.

I’ve disconnected the hearing aid, forgotten the connection, deleted the Phonak app, reinstalled everything, rebooted the phone and it still happens. In and out of mute all day. Any suggestions?

Yes ~ as your iPhone 13 could be 3½ years old, it's worth checking for a weak, aging battery which can cause a variety of unexpected behaviours. So...

Does your iPhone 13 still have its original battery?

And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...

Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging

I understand that. It's likely the hearing aids need an update to work with iOS 18.4.1. It's not within Apple's control how your hearing aids work with your iPhone.

Although that's above Apple's suggested level of 80% for replacing the battery, it's only an algorithmic estimate of a dynamic chemical process. Also, 3½ years is when batteries begin to degrade and cause issues. If it were me, I'd have the battery replaced soon, rather than wait for the aging battery to fail at an inconvenient time:

I'd contact the hearing aid manufacturer for help. Apple doesn't own them or their app.

It happens even when their app isn’t installed. Also, it DOESN’T happen with my iPad. No issue there. It’s very specific to the phone and only just started so I’m thinking someone tweaked something this weekend.
