How to handle suspicious Apple Pay charge notification and protect personal information?

I recently got a text saying that there was a charge on my Apple Pay for $189.45. This was not made by me. They gave me a number to call. All looked legit, but when talking with support...All of the sudden they wanted all of my credit card numbers, checking account numbers etc under the ruse that they would protect all of these account. I refused, they became rather belligerent so I hung up. There is no reason at all for them to want all of my accounts and information is there?

It was just another scam message and all you need to do is delete it or report if you wish. Apple never sends you a message confirming an Apple Pay charge. The same rule applies to all messages/emails, never call a number or click a link and provide personal information. Just by calling the number, they now know you are susceptible to believing what they tell you and are likely to receive more of those types of messages.
