How do I differentiate different data series with different symbols on the same chart in Numbers?

I have several data series identified by "x" and "y" coordinates that I want to represent in a graph. In Numbers how to differentiate different data series with different symbols (i.e. "x", "o, "+") on the same chart? I tried to change symbols according with data set, but Numbers change ALL the markers. Thank you

Hi eissad64,

Arrange your data like this, select columns B to E and insert a Scatter Plot

Click on the graph and Edit Data References. Untick Share X values to get X Y X Y.

Now you can click on a series and format the Data Symbol.

The strange appearance of 3.41, 2 is because there are overlapping points.

Happy Numbering!

Ian.

It may take a little fiddling to learn the process, but the basic steps are:

  1. Click one series in the chart
  2. Go to the Style tab to change the appearance of the data points
  3. Click another series
  4. Go to the Style tab to change the appearance of the data points for that series
  5. etc,

I created this example by starting with the 'Scatter Chart' sheet in the 'Charting Basics' template at File > New in the menu.

The chart type is '2D Scatter'.

Thanks SG! I realized that I didn't explain my problem well. I would like to represent different parts of the same data series with different symbols. For example, in the attached table, I would like to have the data in the green box represented with "o" and those in the red box with "x". Is it possible? Thanks
